Clay Flowers & Cakes
a decorative technique workshop
World’s End Farm
August 4, 2024
11am-1pm
with Marion Attal
Learn the art of sculpting decorative botanicals out of clay with professional baker and sugar florist Marion Attal of Mamie Brougitte Cakes and ceramicist in residence Kristen Mounsey.
Marion has made a name for herself as a baker of exquisite cakes with fine ingredients. Using sugar, she creates botanically realistic compositions of flowers, making theatrical decorations. Like in many craft professions, the skills she developed in this trade are transferrable to another-- working with sugar as a sculpting ingredient is not all that different than working with clay.
In this course, together with potter in residence Kristen Mounsey, she will teach her method of sculpting flowers using a white stoneware clay. The flowers made in the workshop can stand alone as beautiful decorative objects, or be added to functional pieces like small bud vases and ceramic plates. Participants will leave with a greater understanding and sensitivity of working delicately with clay and make a functional ceramic piece to adorn with their flowers.
Clay and cake will be provided during class :)
No experience necessary! Familiarity with some scultpural technique is helpful but not required.
The option is available to have work made during this workshop fired by Worlds End Studio for $.06/ cubic inch, available for pickup. A firing and glazing fee is waived with donations of $100 or more.
